As ever, a long overdue blog post of a super gorgeous at-home newborn/family shoot that I had the privilege of capturing a few months ago. I’ve known the Marshalls for a decade or so, lucky enough to meet through friends and then the shared experience of becoming parents at the same time. You never forget those early weeks and months of motherhood and the people you go through it with, the reassuring text messaged and sporadic coffees/play dates, they stay sort of etched on you, and you always feel a special fondness for those babies (now strapping children!). I was so incredibly thrilled to hear that they had welcomed a third baby to their wonderful family, and beyond excited to meet her and capture them all together.
I’m also not sure I’ve ever seen two more devoted older brothers! It was really moving seeing them all together. They were both so attentive and affectionate. The oldest (who I still vividly remember photographing as a teeny tiny newborn almost ten years ago!) was so natural, gentle and sweet with his baby sister, I really hope the photos capture that sparkle of love in his eyes.
I love the energy in a home that has a new baby, I know from my own post-natal experiences that it can feel overwhelming, messy, chaotic, like tectonic plates have shifted under your feet…but when you’re a visitor, an outsider looking in, there’s just this underlying vibration of such pure, unconditional love. Yes, exhaustion, yes chaos – sure! – but also overwhelming joy, presence, awe. Those emotions don’t come along very often, I feel privileged witnessing it. I love being in moments of time standing still, the absolute presence and stillness of mother with a new baby, in that indescribable, beautiful bubble of pure love.
Thank you so much to the amazing Marshall family for having me back (and letting me snuggle this insanely scrumptious little lady). xx
